Usually as we approach another Celtic vs Rangers match, there is the attempt from the media to make the Glasgow Derby seem as close as possible. This time around there seems to be a bit more honesty around the matter though, as Ange Postecoglou’s side have dominated the tie over the past couple of years.

Former Rangers captain, Richard Gough, seems to be concerned about at what might happen on Saturday at Parkhead in the latest Glasgow Derby. He has played in plenty of these matches himself and knows what it’s like very well.

And while the red hot atmosphere in the ground and the absence of the Rangers supporters may all contribute to his worries, it seems like he has other concerns as well.

It looks like Gough believes that Celtic simply have the better team at the moment. And he feels that the majority of Rangers fans would agree with that.

Rangers legend surprisingly admits that Celtic are better

As reported by the Daily Record, Gough said:

"“I don’t like to say it but Celtic have a better team than us at the moment, I think the majority of the Rangers supporters would agree with that.“They have better players, they run around more. Stuff like that, if Rangers are going to beat them first they’ll need to match that energy.”"

He further went on to add regarding the match:

"“Look at what’s happened the last few times we’ve played there. There has been a 3-0 and a 4-0 in there. It’s got heavy!”"

With just 6 wins in 40 visits to Parkhead the records give good cause for the Rangers supporters to be worried. And with a nine point lead in the Premiership as Celtic head for their 11th league title in 12 seasons, there’s even more pressure being put on the Ibrox side’s squad and their new manager, Michael Beale.

That pressure is expected to be felt by the Rangers fans as well. This Parkhead trip might very well be the club’s last hope of staying in the title race. And Gough’s comments about Celtic having the better team might not go down well with a portion of the Ibrox support.

Form and history often goes out of the window in Glasgow derbies though. And Celtic must bring their A-game against the Rangers this weekend.
