Jota has been a brilliant signing for Celtic. He was brought in on loan from Benfica last season and played a key part in their Premiership and League Cup double. So impressive were his performances that the club ended up signing him on a permanent basis in the summer and he has not disappointed.
Jota’s performances might have gone a bit under the radar, when compared to the frenzy of last season. But he has continued to deliver the goods and remains just as important to Ange Postecoglou’s side.
One summer signing whose time at the club has not been as smooth though is Alexandro Bernabei. He was signed from Lanus and became the first Argentine player in Celtic history in the process. The left-back has struggled to get ahead of Greg Taylor in the pecking order though, as the Scottish international has been superb. But Jota seems to be backing the new Bhoy.
As reported by Scottish Daily Mail [04/04 print edition page 71] (via 67 Hail Hail), Jota said:
"“Alexandro is a very nice guy and he moved from a totally different background. Football in Argentina is completely different from the football here in Scotland. He deserved his goal on Sunday. I was just so happy for him.“It just shows how good our group is and how ready they are to deliver performances when they come into the team. We always train very hard at Lennoxtown and any time there is an opportunity we are ready to take it. That is why when there is a sub or whatever they always deliver.”"
Jota makes superb claim about struggling Celtic teammate
Bernabei has found chances hard to come by since joining Celtic. There are a few reasons for that though.
On one hand, it was to be expected that the Argentine would take some time to adjust to a completely different style of football. Hopefully we will start to see the best of him from next season.
On the other hand, one cannot overlook how good Taylor has been. The Scottish left-back has undergone a transformation under the management of Postecoglou and has established himself as one of Celtic’s most consistent performers. Thus, it is not a surprise that Bernabei has struggled to get minutes ahead of him.
There is no question that Bernabei has a lot to offer though, especially going forward. He recently found the back of the net in the game against Ross County.
