Celtic have shown a tremendous eye for talent during the time of Ange Postecoglou as manager and have signed a number of players during the past couple of seasons, who have gone on to achieve success at Parkhead. But that does not mean that the club were not pulling off great deals in the past as well.

One of the best deals that Celtic pulled off in recent years was bringing in Jeremie Frimpong from Manchester City. There were not huge hopes when the signing was made, but the Dutchman established himself in the starting XI within months, while still a teenager.

His stay at Celtic Park was not long though and he would soon end up joining Bayer Leverkusen for a transfer fee believed to be around £11.5 million. And Frimpong has done a tremendous job since moving to the Bundesliga as well. So much so that he is being linked with some of the biggest clubs in the world including Manchester United.

As tweeted out by Florian Plettenberg, talks between Frimpong’s agent Jeffrey Lemmert and Manchester United have started. First round was very positive. Erik ten Hag admires the player. The Dutchman is open to leaving Bayer Leverkusen in the summer.

The news surrounding Frimpong will be of great interest to Celtic. That is because they are believed to have a sell-on clause in his deal.

So, if Manchester United end up paying a big transfer fee to sign him, Celtic can expect a solid cash boost themselves.

Of course, nothing is set in stone yet and only talks are being held at the moment. On the other hand, several clubs are believed to be interested in Frimpong. Thus, things could get very interesting in the summer. And considering the state of the modern day transfer market, it would not be a surprise if the fee is north of £40 million.
