Alfredo Morelos’ record against Celtic is nothing to write home about. For a long time, he failed to find the back of the net in the Glasgow Derby. And although that has changed to some extent in recent times, he is not a player that Ange Postecoglou’s side would be afraid of heading into next weekend’s important game at Parkhead.
For a long time, Morelos has been hyped up, mostly by the Rangers supporters, as one of the best players in Scottish football. And he has had some bright spells for sure.
Overall though, he has not had a great career at Ibrox. It has been dominated by controversy very often as well. And with his contract running out in the summer, it looks like the Colombian is set to leave as a free agent unless he unexpectedly ends up signing an extension.
Former Celtic player, Frank McAvennie, had a blunt take on the situation of Morelos. As reported by Football Insider, he said about the Rangers striker:
"“If I was a manager I would not take him.“There is no doubting his talent but I just look at his hunger and his appetite and he does not look like he is going to do it, he does not look as if he wants to do it.”"
Celtic hero makes blunt claim about Morelos
It remains to be seen what the future holds for Morelos. It is looking likely that he will head out of Ibrox in the summer as a free agent.
Celtic of course will not be worried about any of that at the moment. They have a big game coming up next, which could have major implications on the Premiership title race.
Next weekend, they will welcome the Rangers to Parkhead. At the moment, the Hoops are leading the title race by nine points with eight more games to go. It is safe to say that that is a considerable lead.
But Celtic do not have any room for slip ups. If they are able to win against the Rangers at Parkhead, that could put the title race to bed for all intents and purposes.
