Celtic got themselves an important away win against Ross County, thanks to goals from Jota and Alexandro Bernabei. The victory makes sure that they maintain their nine point lead over the Rangers, with just eight more league games left to be played in this campaign. It was not the greatest performance by any stretch of the imagination but it was enough to get the job done.

The pitch did not really suit Celtic’s style of play. And a lot of the time, they struggled to settle into a rhythm or get a grip over the game. They did not take their chances in front of goal as well.

One bright spot from the match against Ross County was Tomoki Iwata’s first start though. The Japanese midfielder looked assured in the middle of the park and put in a solid performance.

Ange Postecoglou seemed to be very happy with Iwata’s display against Ross County. As reported by The Scotsman, the Celtic manager said after the game:

"“He was great.“He was the one who looked most sure-footed in terms of the pitch and the handling of the ball. He’s so clean technically. He really helped us considering it was his first 90 minutes after three months. He finished strongly at the end. I was really pleased I got him out and he showed his qualities out there.”"

Iwata was signed in January from Yokohama F. Marinos. And till now, we have not see a whole lot of him on the pitch. After all, this was his first start for the Hoops and he has been limited to appearances off the bench till now.

He has been impressed in whatever minutes he has been given though. The Japanese midfielder looks absolutely assured, technically great and someone who could be a real asset to this team moving forward.

With his first start in the bag now, Iwata has already shown that he can be trusted in the middle of the park. Celtic are stacked in that area of the pitch but the Japanese midfielder might be too good to leave on the bench often. Let’s hope we get to see a lot more of him moving forward.
