One of Celtic’s biggest strengths in recent times has been their scouting and recruitment. That has been one of the biggest reasons why the club have been successful in turning things around so quickly under the management of Ange Postecoglou, after the terrible 2020/21 campaign. While they have added expertly to their senior squad, the Hoops seem to be looking to bring in some of the best youngsters in the game as well.

One issue that the club have had in recent times is their inability to keep their best youngsters. Clubs like Liverpool, Manchester City, Bayern Munich and several others have swooped in and signed their youth stars before they ever made a real mark in the senior team at Celtic.

Now, it looks like Celtic are ready to compete for the signature of one of brightest young prospects in English football right now. But they have some very tough competition in the race to sign him.

As reported by Football Insider, Celtic and Rangers are tracking Burnley’s Jack McEvilly. They have registered their interest in a potential deal. But the likes of Newcastle United, Manchester United, Everton, Crystal Palace and Brighton & Hove Albion are also interested in the defender.

Judging by the calibre of the clubs interested in McEvilly, it is safe to say that he is one of the brightest talents in English football right now. Thus, Celtic being linked with the Burnley youngster is promising news.

McEvilly is a left-sided centre-back. And at the age of just 16, he has already represented Burnley at the under-21 level.

It remains to be seen if Celtic are able to get a deal done for him, because the competition is tough. If the club are able to bring McEvilly in, it would have to be considered as a major coup.
