Unfortunately, Celtic have become one of the prime destinations for Premier League clubs to look for players. It is a story that has been repeated time after time over the years, as the Hoops have had to see some of their most talented prospects head down south. And it does not look like things will change anytime soon.

One of the biggest problems that Celtic have had in this regard is their inability to keep hold of their best youngsters. Many have left before ever making their mark on the senior team.

It looks like Aidan Borland is on the verge of joining that list. It has been suggested that Celtic offered him professional terms, but he is set to head down south instead in order to join Aston Villa. And the Birmingham club were not the only ones looking to sign him.

As reported by Football Insider, Leeds United made a late move in an attempt to sign Borland ahead of Aston Villa, when talks were already at an advanced stage. But their push has failed and the Midlands outfit have agreed a £300,000 fee, rising to £1.2 million with add-ons.

Whether Borland joins Aston Villa or Leeds United, it would not make much difference to Celtic. One thing that seems clear is that he is headed out of Parkhead and set to move to the Premier League.

Borland is just 15 years of age and a midfielder. He is very highly rated though and has already captained Scotland at youth level. Thus, him leaving is certainly a blow for Celtic.

Of course, he is not the first talented youngster to leave Celtic before ever making it to the senior level. And this is a problem that the Hoops need to find a solution to as soon as possible.
