Celtic are leading the Rangers by nine points in the Premiership title race with nine league games still to be played. As a result, while it might be a bit too early to start resting on their laurels, the Hoops have to be considered as the heavy favourites to go on from here and retain their title. They cannot take their eye off the ball for a second though.
It must be said that the Rangers have improved since the arrival of Michael Beale as manager earlier this season. In the league, the only team that they have dropped points against since then is Celtic, a 2-2 draw at Ibrox.
But despite that, the points gap has remained steady as Celtic have been relentless in their chase for the league title. They have only lost once and drawn once in the Premiership till now this season. Hopefully it will remain that way as well.
Celtic proved themselves as the better team not too long ago, winning the League Cup final against the Rangers. Yet, it looks like Connor Goldson is not giving up on the title race.
Goldson makes bold claim despite struggling to catch Celtic
As reported by the Daily Record, when asked about their chances of winning the league, Goldson said:
"“It’s not finished. Until it’s over we’re going to do everything we can.“We have to play them twice so we’re going to do all we can but until it’s over we’re not going to stop trying. Of course it is (to be nine points behind) but one of the main things the manager said which sticks with me is ‘if we don’t win the league this season we’re going to win the league from now’.“That’s all we can do and to be fair we’ve been on a run since he’s been here. To be fair to them we’re still nine points behind and there’s not much more we can do.”"
Let’s see how the rest of the campaign plays out. Celtic have to treat every remaining game as a final and each one takes them one step closer towards their ultimate goal, that is winning the title.
They have two Glasgow derbies left to be played in the league. The first of them is just a week away. But before that, Celtic have an away trip to Ross County, and they cannot afford to look past Malky Mackay’s side for a second, with them trying to stay up in the Premiership.
