Scottish football was shaken up by unexpected controversy recently, after Rangers Women’s coach, Craig McPherson, appeared to land what looked like a ‘headbutt’ on Celtic Women’s manager, Fran Alonso. It goes without saying that the incident drew a lot of criticism and it remains to be seen what actions are taken.

Of course, emotions always run high when Celtic take on the Rangers. But even then, there is no excuse for the events that took place on the night. Coaches are expected to set a positive example for their players.

Ange Postecoglou has had his say on the matter and has given a typically blunt response to the entire thing, while not delving too deeply into it.

As reported by The Scottish Sun, Postecoglou told Sky Sports:

"“You know, it speaks for itself.“The important thing now it is in the hands of the people who it should be in the hands of.“To investigate it properly and get all sides of the story and deal with it appropriately.“From our perspective as a football club, it is just about making sure we comply with the investigation and do everything we need to do.“We will let the rest take care of itself.”"

It remains to be seen what comes out of the investigation. One can only hope that appropriate action is taken. There is no place in the game of football for incidents like this.

Not only did it become a huge source of controversy. But at the same time, it took away from the football that was played on the night between the women’s teams of the two Glasgow giants, as the match ended in a 1-1 draw.

With the international break now over, men’s club football will be returning to action. Celtic are chasing a second straight league title and they will resume their Premiership campaign with an away trip to Ross County.

Every game is important for Celtic moving forward and they cannot afford any slip ups. On the other hand, Malky Mackay’s side are looking to stay up in the top flight and thus, they are expected to give it their all as well in what could be an interesting contest.
