Celtic are closing in on their second straight Premiership title triumph under the management of Ange Postecoglou. With nine more league games left to be played, they are nine points ahead. And while it might be too early to rest on their laurels, the Hoops have to be considered as heavy favourites to go on and win from here.

Around at Ibrox, the Rangers’ results have certainly improved since the arrival of Michael Beale as manager. But they have still seemed second best when up against Celtic. The Scottish League Cup final at Hampden Park was proof of that, as they got outperformed in all departments.

Amidst all this, there had been rumours of a squad overall at Ibrox in the summer, as they try to catch up with Celtic. But Beale’s latest comments seem to point in the opposite direction.

As reported by Football Scotland, Beale has hinted Allan McGregor could be set to play on for one more year, as the manager told Rangers TV:

"“He’s been a cornerstone of everything that’s been good about this club since I came in 2018 and I think he can be hugely proud and he’s not finished yet.“It’ll be 500 and something, it won’t end at 500.”"

For a few years, it has been believed that the Rangers need a new goalkeeper. Not too long ago, it had looked like McGregor had pretty much lost his place in the team.

And yet, here we are, and it looks like McGregor could be set to continue on at Ibrox. Of course, that sounds like good news for Celtic, as the rumours of a summer revolution at the Rangers appear to have been stretched.

On the other hand, Celtic have continued to strengthen their squad since the arrival of Postecoglou as manager. And they have reaped the rewards on the pitch. The club have already won three trophies under the Australian’s management and there could be more to follow as well.
