Celtic and the Rangers both participated in the UEFA Champions League group stage in the ongoing season, after several years. With them having the two biggest fan bases in world football, this should be a more common picture. But unfortunately, the Scottish giants have had a tough time competing with teams from other leagues in recent years.

Even this season, both ended up finishing bottom of their respective groups. Although in the case of Celtic, it must be said that they did put up some very good performances against the likes of Real Madrid, RB Leipzig and Shakhtar Donetsk.

If the European Super League plans end up going through, then seeing Celtic and the Rangers in the continent’s elite competition might become a much more common sight. Although nothing has been made official yet, the two Glasgow giants would be expected to be invited in order to boost the popularity of the proposed continental tournament. And it could come with a mega cash boost as well.

As reported by Football Insider, Celtic and Rangers could each earn over £60million per year from a revamped European Super League.

Of course, when it comes to the European Super League, it remains to be seen if the idea ever becomes a reality. We have already seen it fall flat on its face the first time it tried to launch a couple of years back.

Since then, the format has undergone a lot of changes though. Rumours have suggested that they are looking to have 60-80 teams, multiple tiers with relegation and promotion.

The new format certainly seems a lot more inclusion than the previous one. And it remains to be seen if this idea ends up gaining some traction and becoming a reality over time.
