Celtic have done a great job when it comes to identifying and signing players in recent times. Fans cannot have any complaints about the club’s recruitment. But on the other hand, one area that has been a weakness for the Hoops for quite some time is their inability to keep hold of their most promising prospects.

Year after year, we have seen some of the brightest Celtic prospects leave the club ever before making their mark in the senior team. The most recent example that comes to mind is Ben Doak.

Doak was even given a couple of appearances at the senior level for the Hoops at just 16 years of age but that was not enough to stop him from making a move to Liverpool. And now, it looks like another promising Celtic youngster is inching towards a move to the Premier League.

As reported by the Daily Record, Aston Villa are closing in on a deal for Celtic’s Aidan Borland. The Premier League club are in pole position to land the talented teenager.

It is believed that Celtic have offered professional terms to Borland. But it looks like he is headed to Aston Villa instead.

Of course, Celtic have received quite a bit of criticism in recent years for their inability to bring through youngsters into the senior team. But at the same time, things have not been made easy for them, considering how many of their most talented prospects have headed abroad.

The club still have a few exciting prospects rising through the B team level at the moment like Rocco Vata, Bosun Lawal, Joey Dawson and more. One can only hope that we get to see more of them at the senior level someday and that they do not leave before that happens.
