John McGinn’s recent comments will worry Celtic fans
Celtic have had nearly the perfect season till now. They have lost just one game till now in all domestic competitions and already have the Scottish League Cup in the bag. But they still have a lot to play for as well and it is way too early for them to rest on their laurels. The Premiership and the Scottish Cup are still up for grabs with a potential treble on the table.
Of course, Celtic are leading the league title race by a commanding nine points but there is still nine more games left to be played, including two against the Rangers. On the other hand, they will come up against Michael Beale’s team in the semis of the Scottish Cup as well, in another huge game of football for Ange Postecoglou’s side.
That match will of course be played at Hampden Park. And there have been plenty of complaints about the playing surface at the stadium in recent times.
Some of John McGinn’s recent comments will come as a worry to Celtic supporters ahead of the Scottish Cup semi-finals against the Rangers as well. As reported by 67 Hail Hail, the Aston Villa star said on [Sunday Post, 26/03 print edition]:
"“If we have any excuse, it was the pitch. It was really tough to play on. I remember watching Celtic v Rangers a few weeks ago, and it looked the same.“It was tough to play on for both teams – and it might not suit Spain. Hopefully, they water it before Tuesday. It was just tough underfoot and slippy. A lot of the players were falling about, even big Angus Gunn. It was difficult to play our stuff, but thankfully we clicked late on and got another two goals.”"
McGinn’s recent comments will worry Celtic fans
McGinn was involved in the Scotland national team’s recent game at Hampden Park against Cyprus, which ended in a 3-0 win for the home side. But despite of the result, there was plenty of criticism of the display on the day.
It looks like the playing surface might have played a part in that. And we have noticed that in recent matches involving Celtic at Hampden Park as well.
With the Scottish Cup semi-finals against the Rangers set to be played at the same venue, the fans will be hoping that things improve with regards to the surface by then. Especially keeping the possession-based style of football that Celtic play in mind.
