Liel Abada’s future at Celtic seems pretty uncertain. There have been rumours that he could be looking to leave at the end of the season. On the other hand, there have been suggestions that Southampton are preparing to make an offer for the Israeli international. Thus, it will be interesting to see how things transpire from here on forward.

It was in the summer of 2021 that Abada was signed by Celtic. Since then, he has gone on to play an important part in Ange Postecoglou’s team.

He has never been a nailed on starter though. In fact, starts have been quite hard for Abada to come by lately with the likes of Jota and Daizen Maeda ahead of him in the pecking order. But eve then, it would be a blow for Celtic if he was to leave. After all, he is brought on as a substitute on a regular basis and has shown his ability to make an impact time after time with his goals and assists.

But if Abada was to actually leave the club, then the club might have the perfect replacement for him already. That player is none other than Mikey Johnston.

Johnston is currently out on loan at Vitoria SC in Portugal. And he has had a decent time there. Recently, he even impressed in his international debut for the Republic of Ireland national team.

While coming through the youth ranks at Celtic, Johnston was the most highly rated player of his group and was expected to make a mark at the senior level. Unfortunately, injuries prevented him from doing so.

Finally though, he seems to have left his injury issues behind and is playing football regularly once again. As a result, when he returns from Vitoria SC, it might be time to give Johnston another chance to show what he is capable of.
