There are a number of Celtic players who are being linked with moves away from Parkhead in the summer. Of course, this will be nothing new to the supporters of the club, who are pretty used to seeing some of their best leave for teams abroad. Even in January, two key players in Giorgos Giakoumakis and Josip Juranovic, headed for the exit door.
There are several more who are rumoured to be targets of clubs down south. Carl Starfelt is one such player who is being linked with a move to the Premier League.
Starfelt has been a nailed on starter for Celtic ever since he arrived in the summer of 2021 from Rubin Kazan. The Swedish international has formed the best defensive pairing in Scottish football, alongside Cameron Carter-Vickers, in the heart of the Hoops’ defence. Could he be headed for the Premier League in the summer?
Starfelt seems to be enjoying his time at Parkhead though. As reported by the Scottish Daily Express, talking about life at Celtic, he told Fotbollskanalen:
"“It’s fantastic. Of course, it is something special to win great titles and it is something you really strive for as a football player. To be able to be at a club where it is expected of you and where it means so much to so many people is also incredible and a great feeling.“We dominate in matches and get a lot of the ball. Defending high, and having a lot of play as well, I have had to develop many, many areas. It’s a big club where you are expected to win so you really have to push yourself to develop all the time.”"
Celtic star makes sensational claim amid exit rumours
Thus, Starfelt seems very happy with how life is going for him at Celtic Park and why should he not be? He is playing regular football in front of 60,000 fans every week, winning on a consistent basis and has already three trophies over the past 20 months or so.
At the same time though, one cannot overlook like the attraction of the Premier League. The Premiership simply cannot match it in terms of finances or glamour. As a result, if a serious offer did come in in the summer, one would expect Starfelt to consider it.
For the time being, Starfelt is a Celtic player though and one who is doing very well on the pitch. Hopefully that will remain the case for a long time to come as well.
