Ange Postecoglou has admitted in the past to Kenny Dalglish being one of his heroes growing up and having posters of him on his wall. As a result, it would be pretty safe to assume that the former Celtic star’s words and praise will hold some special weight for the current manager of the Hoops.
Postecoglou has done a magnificent job since arriving at Celtic Park in the summer of 2021. He took over a team that was in need of a major rebuild. Not only have they undergone that, but have been successful along the way as well.
Celtic have already won three trophies under the management of Postecoglou and there could be more to follow, as they lead the Premiership title race by nine points and are in the Scottish Cup semi finals as well.
Thus, it should come as no surprise that Postecoglou has been rumoured with a move to the Premier League on several occasions already. Everton, Brighton & Hove Albion, Southampton, Wolves and Leeds United have all been linked with the Australian manager.
Dalglish makes sensational claim about Celtic boss
Dalglish does not seem to believe that Postecoglou would be interested in leaving Celtic for a team struggling to stay up in the Premier League. As reported by Independent.ie, he said:
"“There’s no background to it.“He’s done brilliantly at Celtic and it’s attracted people from down south to say ‘come down here’. But are you trying to say Celtic’s not as big an adventure as some of the clubs that were allegedly interested in him?“Why would he go down to the Premier League and get relegated or to a team threatened by relegation? He’d rather be at Celtic playing to win trophies.”"
It remains to be seen what the future holds for Postecoglou. Celtic fans will be hoping that he remains at Parkhead as long as possible. Very few people could have done the job that he has since arriving in Glasgow.
At the same time, one also has to recognise that Postecoglou is in his late 50s, getting his chance in Europe very late into his career. Thus, he does not have a lot of time to achieve all his managerial goals. So, if a big offer came in, he would be expected to consider it.
