Celtic currently sit nine points clear at the top of the Premiership table, with the Rangers sitting at second. And while there has been a bit of a managerial merry-go-round in Scottish football in recent times, Ange Postecoglou seems as safe as can be in the Parkhead hot seat. The Australian has already lifted three trophies since arriving in Glasgow and there could be more on the way this season.
Of course, while Celtic are competing for trophies, there are other teams trying to stay up in the Premiership. One of those clubs is Kilmarnock, currently managed by Derek McInnes.
It is well known that Postecoglou has not been a big fan of how VAR has been implemented in Scottish football, since its introduction earlier this season.
And McInnes has bizarrely namedropped Postecoglou, while talking about the issues that his own side have faced when it comes to VAR. As reported by Football Scotland, the Kilmarnock manager said:
"“It’s frustrating. You hear Ange Postecoglou and whoever talking and almost scoffing at VAR as if they get nothing. While we, if you look at it, have had zilch. Honestly, it’s ridiculous. We don’t seem to get any breaks at all.”"
Rival manager makes bizarre claim about Celtic boss when discussing VAR
Of course, Postecoglou has never gone out and claimed that VAR decisions have only gone wrong for Celtic. On the contrary, his biggest complaints have always been about how it effects the flow of the game and prevents any real momentum from building up.
One thing that has become very clear over the course of the past several months is that Scottish football needs to improve a lot when it comes to the implementation of VAR, both when it comes to the decisions being made and the amount of time being taken to reach them.
VAR was supposed to minimise the discussion about refereeing decisions, but the reality has proven to be the opposite. Celtic have been on the wrong end of things more often than not, but they are not the only ones.
