Celtic and the Rangers are without doubt the two biggest attractions in Scottish football, with the Glasgow Derby being its biggest spectacle. This season, we get to see the two teams come up against each other on six occasions. The Hoops came out on top in the final of the League Cup at Hampden Park by a 2-1 scoreline, thanks to a brace from Kyogo. They will meet in the semi finals of the Scottish Cup next month as well.
A Glasgow Derby at Hampden Park is always a huge spectacle. But a lot of the lustre of their league meetings has been taken away by the reduction in the away allocation.
It looks like Celtic have been pushing for an increase in the away allocation for the Glasgow Derby. Yet, it seems that the Rangers are not too keen on it.
As reported by the Daily Record, Parkhead chiefs want 7000 away fans back in both grounds from next season. But there is no chance that Ibrox bosses will allow the Broomloan Stand to be handed back to the Hoops.
Rangers slammed by Celtic hero over Glasgow Derby decision
Chris Sutton did not sound too pleased with the matter, as he tweeted out:
"Really damaging this is for the profile of the Scottish game. Everyone knows who needs to move on this and how it can be resolved… you have to ask why Rangers won’t budge?? It’s pathetic!"
The Glasgow Derby is one of the biggest games in all of football. And it would be best for the spectacle of it, for large away supports to be back in play.
But at the moment, it looks like the possibility of that happening is not on the table. One can only hope that the issue can be resolved as soon as possible.
Right now, the focus has to be on winning the remaining two pieces of silverware. Celtic are leading the Premiership title race by nine points with nine league games to go. On the other hand, the two Glasgow giants will meet in the semi finals of the Scottish Cup.
