Celtic might have left it too late for comfort, but ultimately they came out with a 3-1 win over Hibernian and their nine point lead over the Rangers intact going into the international break. That means that with nine more league games left to be played, Michael Beale’s side have a mountain and a half left to climb, if they are catch up with Ange Postecoglou’s team.
At the same time, the international break might have come at just the right time for Celtic as well. Rumours had been doing the rounds that a few of their players had been playing through injuries or fitness issues lately.
There has been rumoured to be the reason why Greg Taylor was not picked for the recent Scottish national team’s squad. And some of Postecoglou’s comments pretty much confirm that the left-back has been dealing with some sort of issue.
As reported by 67 Hail Hail, Postecoglou told Celtic’s YouTube channel about Taylor’s fitness:
"“Greg was pretty much struggling for most of the game. Again, it’ll do him good to have a couple of weeks to recover.”"
Postecoglou confirms Celtic player has been playing with injury
Taylor has undergone a remarkable transformation under the management of Postecoglou. Not too long ago, the Scot was considered by many as the weak link of this team. But now, he has to be one of the first names in the Australia’s starting XI.
Celtic signed Alexandro Bernabei from Lanus in the summer as well. But despite that, it looks like Postecoglou does not completely trust the Argentine to be a regular starter, and as a result, he has been mostly restricted to appearances off the bench.
As a result, the international break will come as a major boost for Celtic, as it would allow the likes of Taylor to recover. Cameron Carter-Vickers is another player who is believed to have been playing through a fitness issue while Reo Hatate picked up an issue against Hibernian and was forced off the pitch in the 13th minute.
