Celtic have enjoyed tremendous success during the time of Ange Postecoglou as the club’s manager. And one of the biggest reasons behind that has been how successful they have been in identifying and signing the right players for the Australian’s system of football. The Hoops have relentlessly added to their squad over the past four transfer windows, and reaped the benefits of it on the pitch.
It is clear by now that Celtic pulled of a masterstroke when they signed Kyogo Furuhashi for a transfer fee believed to be around £4.6 million from Vissel Kobe. He was one of the first signings of the Postecoglou era and has arguably proven to be the most vital.
Not only has Kyogo scored a lot of goals, but he has cropped up in the big moments as well. He scored a League Cup-winning brace vs Hibernian last season and then repeated the feat this time around against the Rangers at Hampden Park.
And Pete O’Rourke has hailed Kyogo as one of the best signings in SPFL history. As reported by GIVEMESPORT, the journalist said:
"“I think you’ve got to say he’s right up there for value-for-money and for signings, given the impact he’s had at Celtic.“You’ve got to remember, when he arrived, Celtic were on a low ebb, they’d just seen Rangers win the title by a streak, so he’s had a massive impact, scored goals but also crucial goals.“He scored a double in the League Cup final last season, he scored another double this League Cup final as well.“And I think he’s really taking Celtic to a new level as well with his goals and performances, and there’s no doubt he is the main man in that Celtic team and is the first name on the team sheet, probably. So, for that reason, he’s got to rank as one of the best signings in SPFL history.”"
Journalist makes incredible claim about £4.6 million Celtic star
Kyogo is enjoying an outstanding campaign this time around. According to stats from Transfermarkt, he has scored 26 goals and provided 5 assists in 39 appearances across all competitions.
Of course, that kind of form has seen him being linked with a move away from the club in the summer. Recent rumours have suggested that Crystal Palace could be preparing a transfer bid for Kyogo, with Wilfried Zaha’s contract running out and Odsonne Edouard struggling to make the impact that was expected of him.
Celtic fans will be hoping that Kyogo remains at the club for as long as possible though. There is no doubt that he is one of the most important members of this team.
