Celtic are leading the Premiership title race, while the Rangers sit nine points behind them in second. After that, Hearts are third in the table, and the gap between themselves and the leaders is 34 points. Thus, it is not hard to see why many have questioned the competitiveness of the Scottish league over the years.

One of the ideas that has been suggested time after time is the two Glasgow giants making a move to the Premier League. It would be a financially lucrative step for them, while raising the competitiveness of the Scottish Premiership at the same time.

Yet, there are plenty of problems with it as well. It takes away the two biggest attractions of the Scottish league. And raising the competitiveness is based on lowering the overall standards.

Ange Postecoglou, who has already won three trophies on Scottish soil, has given his take on the matter. And it does not look like he is a fan of the idea of Celtic and the Rangers making the move to the Premier League. As reported by the Daily Record, the Australian said:

"“Hmm… How many championships have Bayern Munich got in a row at the moment? Forever and a day there will be opinions on the game.“It is good theatre, great to grab your bucket of popcorn and listen to it, but it’s not in my radar at the moment. I’m not in that head space, I know what you are saying but people are just so in the moment.“When was the last time Rangers and Celtic met in Scottish Cup final? 2002, that tells you something, all this stuff is in the moment because we happen to be dominating the competition.“Whether it is one team or another, or two teams, it is always the case now. In terms of the broader discussion around Scottish football, if the suggestion is that the best way to improve is to take away the highest standard you have within the game, then I don’t believe that. If you want to raise the standards then you try and attain the highest standard that already exists.“So try and build teams up to that rather than give everyone a lower bar. Mate, I lived in Australia where there is a salary cap, where there is equalisation and, let me tell you, there is no one in Scotland that would enjoy that walk for one second.”"

The best case scenario would be the other clubs raising their standards instead of the two best teams leaving in order bring everyone on a equal footing. And who is to say that one or two new dominant teams would not emerge even after that.

It has been the same story all around Europe. Barcelona and Real Madrid in Spain, Bayern Munich in Germany, PSG in France, Juventus even dominated Italian football for nearly a decade.

Thus, there might be no simple solution to the problem, if there even is one at this moment. And, getting rid of the two biggest attractions in Scottish football is definitely not one of them.
