Celtic suffer unexpected injury blow to first-team starter

Celtic are going into one of the most important phases of the season. Their performances moving forward will determine the fate of the Premiership and the Scottish Cup. They are leading the league by nine points as things stand. On the other hand, they are in the semi finals of the other competition, where they will be taking on the Rangers.

Thus, the last thing that Celtic need to deal with right now is injury problems. And yet, there have been quite a few worries.

Carl Starfelt was taken off at half-time against Hearts. The good news is that his issue does not seem to be serious and he has been called up by the Sweden national team for the upcoming international break.

On the other hand, it looks like his defensive partner, Cameron Carter-Vickers, is dealing with an injury issue as well. And that is the reason why he was left out of the United States national team’s squad for the internationals.

As tweeted out by Brian Sciaretta, US Soccer has clarified that a few players were held out due to injury. That includes Carter-Vickers with a knee problem.

That will come as a surprise to Celtic fans. Carter-Vickers has been playing consistently for the club for quite some time now, and there have been no signs that he has been struggling with any problem.

But it looks like the American defender might be playing through an injury at the moment. If that is indeed the case then this international break with no football with do him a world of good and hopefully he will be fully recovered in a couple of weeks. Celtic have only one game left before that, which will be against Hibernian at Parkhead in the Scottish Premiership.
