Celtic have continued to add to their ranks over the past four transfer windows. As a result, a squad that was paper thin at the beginning of Ange Postecoglou’s stint at the club, is now absolutely stacked less than two years later. There have been suggestions recently that the Hoops plan to continue strengthening. And they might have been handed a boost in that regard.
Of course, we have already seen Josip Juranovic and Giorgos Giakoumakis leave the club. In the future, it looks like Celtic could be handed a solid cash boost, but without parting ways with any of their players.
Kieran Tierney left Celtic in the summer of 2019 in order to join Arsenal in a Scottish record move. He has had an up and down time at the London club since then, but his time there might be coming to an end.
The Scottish international has lost his place in Mikel Arteta’s starting XI. And now, it looks like a transfer exit might be a real possibility. As reported by GOAL, according to Ben Jacobs in his CaughtOffside column, Arsenal are looking to receive around £35 million to £40 million for Tierney.
£40 million transfer update is superb news for Celtic
The positive news for Celtic in all of this is that they are believed to have a sell-on clause in Tierney’s deal. As these things often work, the former club are given a percentage of the profit that his team make out of the player’s transfer.
Arsenal had shelled out a transfer fee around £25 million to sign Tierney from Celtic in 2019. Thus, if they get a figure around £40 million for his exit, that could represent a decent sell-on fee.
Newcastle United are believed to be interested in signing Tierney. On the other hand, other clubs are expected to be keeping an eye on the situation as well.
