While he might not always get enough credit, but Greg Taylor has been one of Celtic’s best and most consistent performers in recent times. For years, the club had struggled to find a regular starter at left-back, following the exit of Kieran Tierney in order to join Arsenal back in 2019 in a Scottish record transfer.
Interestingly, Taylor was signed by Celtic in the same transfer window. But his performances in the first few seasons left a lot to be desired and it felt like he was not good enough to be starting for Celtic on a regular basis.
Taylor has come a long way under the management of Ange Postecoglou though and is a nailed on starter for the Hoops at this point of time. That is despite the fact that Celtic signed Alexandro Bernabei from Lanus in the summer for a significant fee.
Thus, that goes on to show how good Taylor has been lately. But despite that, he was not included in the recent Scotland national team squad. The reason remains unexplained.
Scotland boss makes mysterious claim about Celtic star and why he was left out of Scotland squad
As reported by the Daily Record, Scotland national team manager, Steve Clarke, said about the Taylor situation:
"“I know Greg very very well. We have a good relationship. I have had a chat with him and he is fine. There are one or two little issues around that one, which is not for me to say. It is a Celtic matter.”"
Taylor has had some small injury problems in recent times. But nothing significant enough to be left out of the national team squad.
His form has been absolutely superb this season. As a result, him not being included in the Scotland squad is certainly curious. One has to wonder what the reasoning is, although Clarke did not really open up and discuss the matter in public.
One can only hope that everything is fine with Taylor. And we get to see him performing at a high level in a Celtic shirt moving forward.
