Celtic have been near perfect when it comes to identifying players who would suit Ange Postecoglou’s system and then signing them. That has been one of the biggest shifts at Parkhead during the reign of the Australian manager, and it is one of the biggest reasons why they have been so successful, already lifting three trophies and more potentially on the way.

Of course, there have been some players who have struggled to make their mark, amid so many changes around. One name that falls under that category is that of Stephen Welsh.

Rumours had broken out earlier this year that Celtic were ready to listen to offers for him in January, and that did not come as a surprise to anyone. Welsh has struggled for chances for a while, and currently finds himself as the fourth choice centre-back at the club, if that.

But then, in a strange turn of events, it was Moritz Jenz whose loan deal was cut short and he ended up leaving. On the other hand, Welsh stayed on at Parkhead despite the chances of him getting consistent minutes being slim to none.

Welsh came through the youth ranks at Celtic and is a big talent. He has shown what he is capable of in the Hoops from time to time.

But he does not have the consistency at the moment to be a regular starter for Celtic. And following the arrival of Yuki Kobayashi, he has slipped further down the pecking order at Parkhead.

Thus, it might be a good idea for Welsh to complete a Parkhead exit in the near future. At this stage of his career, he needs to be playing regular football, which unfortunately he won’t get at Celtic Park. There have been rumours of there being interest in him from abroad in the past and such a move would make sense.
