Celtic fans must be delighted with how things have gone for the club this season till now. As things stand, they are already League Cup winners, are leading the Premiership by nine points and are in the semi finals of the Scottish Cup as well. The foundations have been laid for a very successful campaign. Now, it all comes down to finishing it strong.
The club ended up making four additions to the squad in the January transfer window. They brought in Yuki Kobayashi, Tomoki Iwata, Alistair Johnston and Oh Hyeon-gyu. On the other hand, several others headed in the opposite direction as well, including two key players in Giorgos Giakoumakis and Josip Juranovic.
Johnston has come in and immediately established himself as a starter for Celtic, and is not letting the club feel the absence of Juranovic. But Oh is yet to completely find his feet in Scotland, and has not fully filled Giakoumakis’ shoes yet.
Oh has scored a couple of goals and showed promise. But it is clear that there is a lot of room for improvement as well.
Celtic player admits that he is unsure of his role in the team
Oh seems to be unsure of his role in the team. As reported by The Scottish Sun, the South Korean striker said:
"“I had different responsibilities to the team in Korea than I do with Celtic.“At the moment I am trying to find out what my role is within the squad and to the squad.“Ultimately, though, you have the same task which is always to try our best to score goals and help the team win matches.“Beyond that I am still learning what my role is in the group.”"
Oh has made a decent but not spectacular start to life at Celtic. It is important to remember though that he is just 21 years of age and getting his first taste of football in Europe.
As a result, it is only natural that it would take him some time to adjust to his new surroundings. It is important to give him that chance. Oh clearly has a lot of potential, but he is not the finished article yet. That does not mean he won’t be in the future.
