A number of Celtic’s players have been performing at a high level in recent times. That has resulted in their massive success on the pitch during the time of Ange Postecoglou as manager, already winning three trophies in his spell. At the same time though, the performances have also led to rumours linking them with moves away from Parkhead.

Daizen Maeda has been a standout performer for Celtic lately. He had made a slow start to the season and many even considered him as the weak link in Postecoglou’s side not too long ago.

But he had a very promising World Cup campaign with the Japan national team. And it looks like that might have been just the confidence booster that Maeda needed. He has been in top form since returning from the tournament.

Southampton are a club rumoured to be looking to sign him in the future. But Frank McAvennie believes that they will get relegated. As reported by Football Insider, when asked if a move to St Mary’s would be a downgrade for Maeda, the former Celtic star said:

"“Of course it would.“I do not think Southampton will be there, I think they will get relegated.“It is good when people come in for players, it means they are doing the right thing. Maeda, I do not know what he is eating he is going like a Duracell, he just keeps going.”"

It remains to be seen what the future holds for Maeda. He has managed to establish himself in the starting XI for Celtic though.

His numbers have been solid as well, despite the slow start to the campaign. According to stats from Transfermarkt, Maeda has scored 10 goals and provided 6 assists in 38 appearances and 2064 minutes of football this season for Celtic.

Those are pretty good numbers for a winger, and Maeda seems to be only getting better. It is not just the stats about him though. What he brings off the ball, with his relentless pressing, is also very important to this team. Thus, one would be hoping that the Japanese international remains at the club for as long as possible.
