Daizen Maeda’s recent form has been impressive to say the least, as he has established himself as a starter for Celtic. It is easy to forget but the Japanese forward was heavily criticised in the first half of the campaign, as he struggled to make an impact. Many people even viewed him as the weak link in Ange Postecoglou’s team.
Maeda had a great World Cup campaign with Japan though and that seems to have handed him the confidence boost that he needed. He has been absolutely superb since returning from the tournament.
Thus, Celtic fans were left worried when Maeda was forced off the pitch in the first half against Hearts. The Japanese international collided with goalkeeper, Zander Clark, in the process of scoring and ended up injuring himself.
The hope was that it was only a knock and taking him off was a precaution. But now, it looks like the situation might be worrying. As reported by Football Scotland, Maeda was spotted leaving Celtic Park on crutches.
Worrying pictures emerge of Celtic star after picking up injury against Hearts
Once again, fans will be hoping that Maeda leaving on crutches is just precaution. But the signs are not looking good at the moment. It remains to be seen how long his injury will keep him out for, and we should know more about the matter in a day or two.
As things stand, it feels unlikely that Maeda would be able to take part in the upcoming match between Celtic and Hearts at Tynecastle Park. It is the quarter-finals of the Scottish Cup.
If Maeda does indeed miss the game against Hearts, it would be a blow for Celtic. But they do have impressive depth at left-wing, with Jota and Sead Haksabanovic capable of playing in the position in the absence of the Japanese star.
