Celtic are enjoying a great campaign till now. They recently won the Scottish League Cup and are nine points ahead of the Rangers in the Premiership, with ten games left to be played. The Hoops are still in the Scottish Cup quarter-finals as well, where they will be taking on Hearts at Tannadice Park. Thus, a potential treble is still on the table for Ange Postecoglou’s side.
Considering how things are going for them, one would not expect one of Celtic’s starters to be criticised. Yet, that is exactly what has happened.
It appears that Tam McManus has been left unimpressed by the efforts of Joe Hart this season. The pundit appears to believe that that is an area of the pitch where Celtic need to improve moving forward.
As reported by Football Scotland, McManus told PLZ Soccer about Hart:
"“I think Celtic need a goalie, I’ve not been particularly impressed by Joe Hart this season.“The first season I thought he was good but this season, no. I think Celtic need to improve their goalkeeping options so there’s one.”"
Celtic starter slammed as club urged to sign replacement
There have always been question marks regarding the suitability of Hart to this system. After all, one of the reasons why his career at Manchester City came to an end was because he was not suited to playing possession based football.
We have seen why that was the case at Parkhead as well, as it is clearly not one of Hart’s strengths. But at the same time, one cannot simply overlook the great things that he has done in a Celtic jersey till now.
When the Hoops signed Hart from Tottenham Hotspur in the summer of 2021 for a transfer fee believed to be around £1 million, a lot of eyebrows were raised. He had not been a starter for a top level club for quite some time.
Hart has proven a lot of critics wrong though and his ability to stop shots still remains brilliant. There are some aspects of his game which are not the best suited to Celtic’s style of play but then, the Englishman has brought some much needed leadership to the club as well, when they needed it following the exit of Scott Brown.
