The end to Scott Brown’s storied Celtic career was not ideal. The Hoops had blown their chance to win 10IAR and also finished trophyless. On the other hand, Broony said his goodbyes to the fans inside an empty Parkhead. It was not what he or anybody would have envisioned, but such is the game of football.
Brown would go on to take a player-coach role at Aberdeen after leaving Celtic. But that was not a great experience either. He would ultimately depart the club before the season was even over and hung up his boots in silence.
Brown has since taken his first steps in coaching and is doing an impressive job at Fleetwood Town, in League One of English football. And if he can continue to deliver the goods there, it should not be long before he moves up the ranks and lands bigger jobs.
Brown has surely had an eye on how his former side have been doing as well. And to be honest, Celtic have been brilliant since the appointment of Ange Postecoglou as manager. They won the Premiership and League Cup double last season, already have the first piece of silverware in the bag this time around and are looking for more.
Brown offers special praise to Celtic star
Brown passed down the captain’s armband to Callum McGregor. And it is safe to say that the Scottish international has done a wonderful job. Broony had nothing but positive things to say about his former teammate.
As reported by Glasgow Times, Brown told Celtic TV:
"“Cal’s been unbelievable and, for me, I couldn’t have hand the armband down to anybody better. He’s an exceptional footballer, he’s got the drive to go forward and he loves the club to bits, and it’s what you want as a captain.“You need somebody that’s got that trust of the fans but also he’s got the fans’ back as well. He knows what they want and he produces it week-in, week-out.”"
Initially, there had been some apprehensions about whether McGregor was the right man for the captain’s job or not. After all, he is a very different type of personality to Brown. But he has proven the critics wrong, led by example and brought success back to the club.
