Ange Postecoglou has been close to perfect since his arrival as the manager of Celtic in the summer of 2021. Not only has he delivered success on the pitch, already winning three trophies with the Hoops and more possibly on the way, but he has been successful in building up a brilliant connection with the supporters as well.
It is easy to forget that the decision to bring in Postecoglou had received a lot of criticism. A lot of fans were not convinced by the appointment of someone who had never managed a top flight club in Europe before. It is safe to say that the Australian has proven the critics wrong and then.
Not only has he won over the Celtic fans, but he seems to have made a positive impression on some with Ibrox connections as well. Someone like Alan Hutton, who came through the youth ranks at Rangers and spent several years playing for the senior team as well.
As reported by Football Insider, Hutton said regarding Postecoglou:
"“He is performing at a high level and he comes across as a really genuine guy.“At the cup final Ange came out the tunnel and walked right over to us and he stood and chatted for ten minutes. He was answering questions, he was talking about me and my career. I was thinking ‘how does he even know me?’.“It felt strange but it was a touch of class. He did not have to do it. He talks a lot of sense so it does not surprise me that he is a really likeable guy.“"
Former Rangers player blown away by Celtic manager’s gesture
It is safe to say that Postecoglou has a way with his words. That is one of the biggest reasons why he has been successful in connecting with the Celtic fans in such a short span of time.
It is worth remembering that he had no previous connection with the club. And yet, just 20 months on, it feels like he has been around for years and is already starting to build up a legacy for himself at Parkhead.
When he arrived, the club were in a terrible position. It was believed that it would take two-three years just to start challenging for the league again. But Postecoglou guided them to the Premiership that very season, along with a League Cup title as well. The first silverware of this campaign is also in the bag, and hopefully, there is more to come.
