Celtic have been absolutely brilliant when it comes to their recruitment during the time of Ange Postecoglou as manager. The club have been successful in finding a number of players who have gone on to become household names like Kyogo, Jota, Cameron Carter-Vickers, Reo Hatate, Matt O’Riley and several others.
But that does not mean that the club did not pull off some brilliant moves before the arrival of Postecoglou as well. One of them was bringing in Jeremie Frimpong from Manchester City while the Dutch full-back was still a teenager.
While there were not huge expectations around him, Frimpong would go on to establish himself as the starting right-back in Neil Lennon’s team within months. And in January of 2021, he would end up making a move to Bayer Leverkusen for a transfer package believed to be around £11.5 million.
Frimpong has grown from strength to strength at Bayer Leverkusen as well and is expected to make a move to one of the biggest clubs in Europe in the near future. Of course, that will come in lieu of a significant transfer fee, which is great news for Celtic, who are believed to have a sell-on clause in his deal.
Celtic tipped to be handed £5 million cash boost soon
As reported by Football Insider, when asked if Frimpong’s potential move is a boost for Celtic, Frank McAvennie said:
"“Of course it is.“Everything counts but Celtic are in a good place at the moment. They are getting money, they have done well in business.“£40/£50m, Celtic should get another £5m so that is a good piece of business. I think it was Peter Lawwell that did that.“I think he is a good player as well. I do not know whether he would be too short for the Premier League though. But, what he lacks in height he makes up for in everything else he does. He would be an interesting one if he was to go there.“"
Frimpong has been linked with the likes of Chelsea, Manchester United, Real Madrid and several other top European teams in recent times. It is not hard to see why either, as he has been one of the best young talents in the Bundesliga since joining Bayer Leverkusen.
It is actually unbelievable that he is still just 22 years of age. It feels like Frimpong has been around for a long time. And if or when he gets a big move away from Bayer Leverkusen, it is expected to bring a significant boost for Celtic as well.
