Celtic are fresh off of winning the Scottish League Cup, with a 2-1 win over the Rangers in the final making the success even sweeter. The Hoops cannot afford to drop their levels for one second though, as there is a lot left to play for. They are leading the Premiership title race by six points, despite having played a game less than Michael Beale’s side. And are still in the Scottish Cup as well.
Celtic’s next test will come away from home against St Mirren. And that could turn out to be a much tougher task for Ange Postecoglou’s side than it looks on paper.
Postecoglou is yet to taste victory at St Mirren Park. In fact, his free-scoring Celtic side have never even managed to find the back of the net at that ground. Thus, that is a run that they will need to bring to an end.
An away loss to St Mirren earlier in the campaign remains their only domestic defeat of this season till now. And in the aftermath of that game, there was quite a bit of talk about Celtic’s grey kit on the day and how it was tough to differentiate with the home team’s kit. Yet, it looks like we will see the two teams in the same combination this time around as well.
Celtic boss unhappy with one thing before facing St Mirren
As reported by The Scotsman, Postecoglou said ahead of the match:
"“I think we are going to play in grey again.“I don’t like it either but it is what it is, mate. I think what people said on the day and what I thought on the day was it is harder to distinguish between players then it would be if there was a clearer distinction between the strips. But it is the referee’s decision and we abide by the referee’s decision.”"
The problem is that Celtic first and second kits have similarities with St Mirren’s home jersey as well. As a result, wearing the grey one ends up being the only remaining option.
One can only hope that the performance from the Bhoys this time around is much better. They cannot afford to drop points at this stage of the campaign and give the Rangers any hope of mounting a potential comeback.
