Celtic have done a wonderful job in the transfer market in recent times. One thing that raised a lot of eyebrows though are the fees that they received for the exits of Giorgos Giakoumakis and Josip Juranovic in January. They seemed way too low, especially when it comes to the Croatian full-back, who was superb at the World Cup and is now shining at Union Berlin.

There were many people who had expected a Scottish record transfer figure out of Juranovic’s exit. That of course belongs to Kieran Tierney, who moved to Arsenal in 2019 for a fee around £25 million.

Since then, he has had an up and down time at the London club. And right now, he finds himself sitting on the bench more often than not. That has led to rumours that he could be on his way out in the summer.

There is some bad news for Celtic regarding that as well. As reported by The Telegraph (via Football Scotland), Arsenal signed Tierney for £25 million and the North London club want their money back to consider letting him leave this summer.

Why Arsenal’s £25 million update is bad news for Celtic

Now, many might wonder why that is bad news for Celtic. Well, it is believed that the club have a sell-on clause included in the deal for Tierney.

But how these clauses work most of the time is that the former club get a percentage of the profit that a team make out of his transfer. In this scenario, it looks like there won’t be any.

As a result, it is likely that Celtic will not get a cash boost, if Tierney changes club for a transfer fee equal to or lower than the £25 million that Arsenal shelled out to sign him in the summer of 2019. Let’s see what the future holds.
