Former Celtic star slams Alfredo Morelos after final
Alfredo Morelos scoring against Celtic has been a rare sight in Scottish football. The Colombian striker’s track record in the Glasgow Derby is nothing to write home about. So when he did grab one against the Hoops in the final of the Scottish League Cup, it might have come as a surprise to many people.
Ultimately, it was all for nothing though. Despite Morelos scoring, it was Celtic who won the game by a 2-1 scoreline, thanks to a brace from Kyogo Furuhashi.
On the other hand, Morelos came under criticism, despite finding the back of the net on the big day. That was largely thanks to his reaction to being substituted on the day, even though the Rangers were still looking for a goal. But to be fair to Michael Beale, the Colombian international was not contributing a lot to the team, even if he might have scored.
And former Celtic star, Charlie Nicholas, was not particularly impressed with Morelos’ display either. He wrote in his column in the Scottish Daily Express:
"The League Cup Final must surely be Alfredo Morelos’s final stand.I don’t know why Michael Beale has stood by him for so long. Steven Gerrard did the same thing. Time after time and red card after red card. Why do they keep playing Morelos?I know he scored at Hampden but the League Cup final defeat exposed his limitations. Yes he got on the score-sheet but other than that his contribution was zero. Morelos just doesn’t bring a danger to Celtic.Morelos, for me, is playing at 75 percent capacity because he is simply not fit."

Questions about Morelos’ fitness and discipline are nothing new. Yes, there was a point of time when he was performing at a high level for the Rangers.
But as the years have passed, it has felt like his performance levels have continued to drop. There have been rumours of a big move away, but that has never transpired. And now, it remains to be seen how much longer he stays at Ibrox.
Celtic on the other hand have a top class striker in Kyogo, who continues to deliver the goods, especially on the big stage. He scored a brace in last season’s League Cup final as well, vs Hibernian. And the fans will be hoping that he stays at the club for as long as possible.
