While Celtic fans hope that Ange Postecoglou remains at Parkhead for the foreseeable future, there has been a managerial merry-go-round in the Scottish Premiership in recent times. The latest name to depart is Liam Fox, who was shown the Dundee United exit door, just months after being appointed as the club’s head coach.
It is not hard to understand why Fox has departed either. As things stand, Dundee United are sitting at the bottom of the Premiership table. And that is surely not were they will want to be, as we head towards the final stretch of the league campaign.
Now, Dundee United find themselves in need of a manager. And it will be interesting to see who they end up bringing in. The club are in a relegation battle without a doubt, and as a result, the best case scenario would see someone with experience come in, rather than someone who will take time to adjust to Scottish football.
Charlie Nicholas appears to believe that Dundee United should consider bringing back Jackie McNamara. He wrote in his column in the Scottish Daily Express regarding the matter:
"They need somebody to keep them up but I don’t see too many candidates. If I was United I would actually consider going back to Jackie McNamara. He did well the first time around."
Celtic legend has been tipped to become Dundee United manager
Of course, McNamara has extensive experience of playing at the top level in Scotland, having spent a decade at Celtic. And he has managed Dundee United in the past as well.
It would be a surprise if the club did end up going back for him though, considering the fact that he has not managed a team in a long time. His last role was at York City, back in 2016.
As a result, if Dundee United did end up bringing back McNamara, it would come with a huge risk as well. Let’s see who they end up going for, as they look to avoid relegation from the Premiership.
