We’re getting closer to the much anticipated Scottish League Cup final on Sunday between Celtic and the Rangers. And as the big Hampden Park game approaches, one former Ibrox star seems to be worried about the ability of Ange Postecoglou’s side, when put up against Michael Beale’s team.
Kenny Miller of course played for both the Glasgow giants, but seems to be a Rangers fan at heart. He has been speaking about the match recently and definitely seems to have concerns for the Ibrox side.
So far this season, Postecoglou’s side have not lost to the Rangers. They got a dominant 4-0 win earlier in the season at Parkhead and at the start of February a late Kyogo Furuhashi goal secured a draw at Ibrox. But the Hoops were well below their best in that last game.
Miller reflected on some recent Glasgow Derbies that Celtic have won recently against the Rangers. Particularly their 3-0 and 4-0 victories over the Ibrox side over the course of the past year. Two dominant and huge results to say the very least.
Rangers hero makes unexpected Celtic admission ahead of League Cup final
As reported by Glasgow Live, Miller told Open Goal ahead of the League Cup final between Celtic and Rangers:
"“It’s not just them being better individually. If it was Hatate, McGregor and O’Riley or even Mooy, they’ve just played together that much.“There’s goals in them, they can all take the ball, they all work their socks off, I just think with the time they’ve had together…who is it going to be for Rangers? Is it going to be Kamara, Raskin, Cantwell or Jack, is Lundstram fit?“Are these guys going to be available? I just think they’re really really cohesive that Celtic team, from midfield to front. And you can even throw their full-backs into it as well.“That’s how they’ve caused Rangers problems in the past – the 3-0 last February and the 4-0 this season – they’re just pulling Rangers all over the place and Rangers never knew how to deal with it.“Subsequently they have dealt with it afterwards, but it is in those two games they’ve had in the last year where they’ve been absolutely torn apart and they need to get to grips with it. Celtic are a top team.”"
Very valid concerns and well done to Miller for bringing them up before a Glasgow derby final. He’s certainly correct about the Celtic midfield, and with Reo Hatate and Aaron Mooy in particular hitting a run of great form in recent matches there’s a lot to be worried about, if you a supporter of the Rangers.
Both players have been hitting the back of the net regularly of late and Hatate certainly has the goal touch against the Rangers. At the same time though, Beale’s side have been in good form as well and the Hoops must be prepared for a tight game.
