Since the arrival of Ange Postecoglou at Parkhead, Celtic have done extremely well in the domestic competitions. From winning back the Premiership from the clutches of rivals Rangers to maintaining a dominant lead in the 2022/23 season so far, the Hoops have evolved once again into the best team in Scotland.
Celtic have amassed 73 points from 26 matches in the Scottish Premiership this season. As things stand, Postecoglou’s side have managed to create a nine-point lead at the top of the table, and look like the favourites to retain their title.
Postecoglou was brought in as manager in 2021. Despite being criticised for his lack of experience in managing clubs in Europe at that point of time, the Australian has never looked back since. It is doubtful whether anyone else would’ve done as well as he has performed at Parkhead.
Now, the big question is how long he will remain at Parkhead for. It is safe to say that most fans want Postecoglou to remain the manager of Celtic for as long as possible. But he has constantly been linked with moves down south.
Sam Allardyce makes admission about taking Celtic job
Known for his heroics with the relegation-threatened teams in the Premier League, Sam Allardyce recently appeared on the No Tippy Tappy Football Podcast and as reported by the Daily Record, he said:
"“With Scottish parents, you’d think that at some stage someone would have pointed that out for me. I think at the right time I would have gone, yes.“Because of the size of the clubs and the size of the fans and the fact that you’re winning all of the time. I went to West Ham in the Championship for a different challenge and we only lost eight games that season, what a pleasure that was, only eight miserable weekends. The rest is glorious.“You go to Rangers or Celtic and what you have to instil and I’ve listened to this off of Alex (Ferguson) and Jose (Mourinho) , you need to find what to do as a manager to get your players to keep winning because keeping winning is so much harder than keeping losing. You can’t keep winning because they switch off.”"
The veteran has been without a club since parting ways with West Bromwich Albion in 2021. Allardyce has also managed the likes of Everton, Newcastle United, and West Ham United in the Premier League.
Nevertheless, it feels almost impossible that Celtic would go for Allardyce at this stage of his career. Could he have done a job at Parkhead in the past? Probably, who knows? As Postecoglou’s run at the club has taught us, nobody should ever be ruled out before getting a proper chance.
