Celtic have been pretty successful in identifying the right players and then signing them, during the time of Ange Postecoglou as the manager of the club. Over the past four transfer windows, they have strengthened the squad relentlessly and reaped the benefits on the pitch. But of course, not all moves have worked out.

Dylan Reid parted ways with St Mirren recently to join Crystal Palace. Before moving to the Premier League club, the youngster had attracted strong transfer interest from clubs in the Scottish Premiership, with Celtic being one of them.

Emerging through the ranks at St Mirren, Reid made a few appearances at the senior level, earned noteworthy praise for his performances. After being linked with the likes of Celtic, Rangers, Benfica and Bayern Munich, he has ended up joining Crystal Palace.

There were even rumours that Celtic had had a transfer bid accepted for Reid in the past and he had held talks with Postecoglou. But he opted to remain at St Mirren back then.

As reported by The Scottish Sun, Reid said:

"“I spoke to Ange Postecoglou. We had a good chat and he explained what it would be like if I went to Celtic.“He said it wouldn’t be easy and I would need to work hard.“I knew that would be the case so that didn’t worry me. That’s what I want, to work hard and progress.“At Celtic I’d have been in their B-team, playing in the Lowland League and I didn’t feel that would suit me.”"

Reid could learn a lot from Crystal Palace manager, Patrick Vieira, one of the best midfielders in the history of the Premier League. However, the emerging star will have to prove his mettle for the club at the youth level before getting his chance at the senior team.

But if he can do that, he might have a big future ahead of him in the Premier League. He is just 17 years of age. And has all the time in the world to improve his game further at the youth levels for Crystal Palace.

He could have been a solid addition for Celtic but it was not to be. Let’s see how Reid does at Crystal Palace moving forward.
