Celtic star Jota admits to frustration from last season
Celtic are heading into the Scottish League Cup final against the Rangers at Hampden Park. There is no need to point out just how important this match is. Not only is silverware up for grabs but it is also a Glasgow Derby on top of that. Both sides have been in pretty good form in recent times, but form often goes out of the window in matches like these and it all comes down to the day.
Celtic will be looking to defend their League Cup crown at the same time as well. It was the first piece of silverware in Scottish football for so many of their players, as well as Ange Postecoglou. They defeated Hibernian in the final last season, thanks to a brace from Kyogo.
One player who was not involved on that day is Jota. The Portuguese winger was struggling with an injury at that point of time and thankfully, his absence did not end up having an impact on the result of the game for Celtic.
Jota has admitted to being frustrated at missing out on a game of that magnitude though. As reported by The Sunday Post [20/02 print edition, Post Match supplement page 2] (via 67 Hail Hail), he said:
"“Last season I was not part of the cup final because I was injured. As a football player you always want to be involved in the biggest games. When that game is about trying to win a trophy you desperately want to be a part of that, I am no exception to wanting that.“You always feel a bit frustrated, as I was on that day, but the boys did a great job to win that trophy. I had to watch the game from a distance but I was proud of all of them all and what they achieved. I tried to do my best to provide some support from the side and the energy was good.“What I have to say is that every game is different. This will be a cup final and the mindset going into that game is to win, that’s the case for every game.”"
Celtic star Jota admits to frustration from last season
Jota will get the chance to put things right this season, when Celtic face the Rangers in the Scottish League Cup final. He is expected to start the game on this occasion.
Jota had gone through a bit of a rough patch in the middle of this campaign. But he has rediscovered his form in recent games and one would hope that he is able to make a difference at the weekend.
Jota already knows what it feels like to score against the Rangers. And let’s hope that he brings his A-game in the Scottish League final.
