Kieran Tierney shattered the Scottish transfer record when he left Celtic in the summer of 2019 to join Arsenal in a £25 million move. For a long time, it looked like a great signing for the Premier League giants as well. While he did have his fitness issues after moving to England as well, overall, he was considered as one of their best players and a potential future captain of the club.
Things have not gone Tierney’s way this season though. He has barely featured in the Premier League, as Arsenal are leading the table and has mostly been used as the club’s cup left-back.
That is not how he would have expected things to play out and as a result, it is no surprise that Tierney is being linked with a move away from Arsenal. And it looks like St James’ Park could be a potential destination for the former Celtic star.
As reported by Football Insider, Newcastle United are closely monitoring Tierney. The former Celtic star is valued around the £30 million mark.
Latest Tierney rumour will interest Celtic fans with Arsenal exit possible
Of course, the rumour will interest Celtic fans because of the fact that the club are believed to have a sell-on clause in Tierney’s deal. Thus, they are expected to get a percentage of any profit Arsenal make out of his departure.
In the past, Tierney was rated at higher than £50 million and linked with clubs like Real Madrid and Barcelona. But with him slipping down the pecking order, it is not expected to be nearly as high.
Let’s see what the future holds for Tierney. But after making only four league starts for Arsenal this season till now and none this year, it might be time for the former Celtic star to look for a new club. Could that be Newcastle United? Time shall tell.
