Celtic fans were left worried when they did not see the name of Aaron Mooy in the matchday squad to take on Aberdeen. Of course, it did not end up having an impact on the result of the game, as the Hoops came home with a 4-0 win over the Dons. But with the Scottish League Cup final against the Rangers just a week away, it is not hard to understand why many were concerned about the fitness status of the Australian midfielder.
Mooy might not have been a glamourous signing in the summer. In fact, many had even considered it as a sideward step on the part of the club, to go after the veteran Australian international.
Mooy has proven himself since arriving at Celtic though and become a fan favourite along the way. Thus, most would be hoping that he recovers in time to feature in the Scottish League Cup final against the Rangers. And there is some good news in that regard.
Ange Postecoglou had a positive update regarding the situation of both Mooy and David Turnbull. As reported by The Irish News, the Celtic manager said:
"“Az just pulled up a bit sore in training (on Friday).“I thought, he has played a lot for us recently, and I was pretty keen to give (Tomoki) Iwata some game time as well.“I just thought it was a good one for Az to sit out and, talking to the medical team, both him and Turnbull should be training Tuesday and Wednesday when we are in and should be right for the final.”"
Celtic boss delivers superb Mooy and Turnbull injury news
It goes without saying that that is great news for Celtic. On current form, Mooy might very well be the best player in all of Scotland.
According to stats from Transfermarkt, Mooy has scored 6 goals and provided 7 assists in 33 appearances and 1536 minutes of football this season.
Mooy did make a slow start to things at Parkhead and did not seem to be at peak fitness early on in the campaign. But as the season has progressed, he has gotten better. Thus, one can only hope that he is involved and makes a big impact in the Scottish League Cup final against the Rangers at Hampden Park.
