Michael Beale has caused a lot of controversy with his comments since being appointed as the manager of the Rangers. We are all familiar with his ‘lucky man’ claim regarding Ange Postecoglou, which has been heavily discussed for weeks. And now, it looks like he has slammed former Celtic star and current pundit, Chris Sutton, as well.

Sutton of course had a very successful career in Celtic colours. And since moving into the media world, he has consistently batted for his former side.

It feels like some of Sutton’s comments were not taken well by Beale though. And it appeared that the Rangers boss was taking a dig at the former Celtic star, even while not naming him directly.

Some of it seemed to be a criticism of his unsuccessful time at Chelsea. As reported by Glasgow Live, Beale said:

"“Growing up, I was a fan of Chelsea. So there is one pundit around here who is the worst ever player to play for Chelsea. That is why I won’t mention his name because I try to forget him.”"

Of course, before coming to Celtic, Sutton was at Chelsea. In fact, the Blues were believed to have shelled out a transfer fee close to £10 million to sign him, which was significant at that point of time.

Sutton was unable to live up to expectations during his time at Chelsea though. The move proved to be a mistake on the part of the Blues, as the striker was only able to score three goals during his spell at Stamford Bridge, before making a move to Celtic.

We all know what happened after that, as Sutton proved to be a huge success at Celtic Park. He was one of the key players for the Hoops during his time at Parkhead and has continued to remain a popular figure amongst the club’s supporters.

A lot of that is down to his work as a pundit. And it feels like some of his comments managed to get under the skin of the Rangers manager.
