Kyogo Furuhashi picking up an injury in the game against St Mirren is a major worry for Celtic. The Japanese star has been in spectacular form since after the World Cup break and has been scoring almost for fun in recent months. Thus, one can only hope that he is back to full fitness as soon as possible, because Ange Postecoglou’s side need him, especially with the Scottish League Cup final against the Rangers set to be played later this month.
Kyogo has been Celtic’s man in form in front of goal recently. According to stats from Transfermarkt, he has scored 22 goals and provided 4 assists in 33 appearances this season till now.
Thus, if Kyogo was not available in the final, it would be a blow for Celtic for sure. Oh Hyeon-gyu is their back up option at striker right now, and the South Korean international has not even made his first start for the club till now.
Frank McAvennie appears to believe that Oh could do a job against the Rangers though and he would not be too disappointed if Kyogo was not available. As reported by Football Insider, he said:
"“This next game will get him used to what is expected of him.“I liked him. I was at Tannadice a couple of weeks ago when he came on. The fans loved him and he played to the crowd. He just did what everyone expected, he chased his socks off.“He got his first goal at Celtic Park which is always great.“I won’t be too disappointed because I think he would give [Ben] Davies and [Connor] Goldson a bit of a game. But I hope that Kyogo is fit.“If he does not play for the next two weeks or so he might be ok and we could get a half out of him.“Rangers do not know much about Oh so they do not know how to handle him. They know how to handle Kyogo so that could go in our favour.“"
Former Celtic star makes Kyogo and Oh claim before League Cup final vs Rangers
It will be very interesting to see how things turn out over the next couple of weeks in terms of Kyogo’s fitness. All the rumours and updates have suggested that it is not a serious issue.
But will he be fit in time in order to start or feature in the League Cup final, about ten days from now. Let’s see what the future holds.
In many ways, it does feel similar to last season, when Kyogo was injured before the League Cup final vs Hibernian. But he returned in time to score a brace and win the game for Celtic. Could we see something similar this time?
