Oh Hyeon-gyu could potentially find himself in the starting XI for Celtic at the weekend vs Aberdeen, if Kyogo is not able to recover in time. The South Korean striker had not played competitive football in a few months, before his move to Parkhead. Till now, he has only made cameos off the bench, since arriving in Glasgow.
But with Giorgos Giakoumakis leaving and Kyogo picking up an injury, Oh might be the one leading the line for Celtic in the upcoming match. His goal in the previous game against St Mirren, after coming on as a substitute in the second half, will give the fans hope though that he is ready to get the job done up front.
It was Oh’s first goal in Celtic colours and he seems to have been delighted with the song that the fans have for him. And it looks like he is targeting to hit the back of the net as often as possible, so that he gets a chance to listen to it frequently.
As reported by the Glasgow Times, Oh said:
"“In terms of my emotions, this was the moment I’ve been dreaming about my whole life. I’m so happy to share this moment with my fans and my team-mates.“I was so happy to hear the fans singing, so happy to hear that they already have a song for me with my last name. My aim now is to try my best to make sure our fans can sing that song very often. That would be wonderful.”"
Oh sends message to Celtic fans about song for him
For a long while, Celtic had been linked with a move for Cho Gue-sung. But with the World Cup sensation deciding to remain at Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors, the Hoops ended up signing his South Korean international teammate in Oh.
Oh was very highly rated while coming through the ranks in K League too, at Suwon Samsung Bluewings. And he is quite a bit younger than Cho as well.
So, he is perhaps not as polished as the Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors striker yet. But he has a lot of potential.
It is very possible that he could reach Cho’s level or even surpass it. It will depend on how things go for him at Celtic though.
