Celtic fans are not fond of Steven Gerrard. That is safe to say, as the Liverpool icon spent several years managing the Rangers. And even though he was successful in winning just one trophy during his time in Scotland, it was the Premiership that stopped the Hoops from winning 10IAR. He would leave the Ibrox club in the middle of last season to manage Aston Villa.
Gerrard’s time at Aston Villa did not go as well as he would have hoped. He had made a decent enough start but ultimately, he was not able to get the best out of the Birmingham club and was shown the exit door. His reputation as a manager took a big blow as a result.
Now though, it looks like Gerrard could be handed another chance to manage in the Premier League. And this time around, it is good news for Celtic.
As reported by Glasgow Live, Gerrard is the latest name to be linked with the Leeds United job. Of course, Postecoglou has been linked with a move to Elland Road lately as well.
Gerrard rumour is great news for Celtic
Postecoglou was heavily linked with the Leeds United job immediately after the club parted ways with Jesse Marsch recently. But now, it feels unlikely that the Australian will head down south to manage at Elland Road.
There is no doubt that Leeds United are a big club. Postecoglou seems to enjoy being the Celtic manager a lot though. And at the same time, it does not feel like the right fit for him at all.
Over the past 12 months, Leeds United have shown the exit door to two very highly rated managers in Marcelo Bielsa and Marsch. And they are trying to avoid relegation once again.
None of Postecoglou’s recent comments have suggested that he is looking towards a move away from Parkhead either. Thus, it might be about time to put the rumour to bed.
