Celtic have done a brilliant job when it comes to identifying and signing the right players to fit into Ange Postecoglou’s style of football. That has perhaps been the biggest reason why the Australian manager has been able to turn things around so quickly at Parkhead and re-establish the club as the best in Scotland in such a short span of time.

Celtic won a Premiership and League Cup double last season. And they are still in contention for all three trophies this time around. Let’s see how things turn out ultimately, but they are looking in a great position to match or perhaps even surpass the previous campaign.

Of course, all transfer moves cannot be success stories. That’s just how things work. And one signing that clearly did not work out was the move for Yosuke Ideguchi in January of 2022, when the Japanese midfielder was signed from Gamba Osaka.

He did not make a single appearance this season before being sent out on loan to J League side, Avispa Fukuoka, earlier this month. As reported by the Daily Record, Ideguchi said about his move to Celtic:

"“I am fit, I have been in full training for a long time. I am ready to play in a full game with my new club.“I’m not going to look back at Celtic with any regrets, but I can’t honestly say it was a success. Even when I wasn’t playing I made sure I gave everything in training. I believe I improved as a player at Celtic and I am stronger for my time there.”"

The decision to sign Ideguchi was always considered as a bit of a risk on the part of Celtic. And it would be safe to say that it did not pay off.

Ideguchi managed to make only one start during his time at Celtic Park, before being sent out on loan this month. It is worth pointing out though that it would be unfair to blame him, as he had a couple of injury problems as well.

Of course, Ideguchi is only out on a year-long loan and could potentially be back at Celtic in the future. But to be honest, it would be a surprise if he plays a game for the Hoops again.
