Celtic boss offers Kyogo injury update after St Mirren game
Celtic made their way into the next round of the Scottish Cup with a 5-1 win over St Mirren. There were four different goalscorers for the Hoops on the day, with Reo Hatate scoring a brace off the bench, while Daizen Maeda, Oh Hyeon-gyu and Matt O’Riley found the back of the net as well. Ange Postecoglou was handed a worry early on in the game though, as Kyogo Furuhashi picked up an injury and had to be substituted off within the first 15 minutes.
It seemed to be a shoulder problem for Kyogo and he looked to be in some discomfort. Celtic fans will be hoping though that it is not a serious issue and the Japanese superstar is back on the pitch as soon as possible.
He has been in tremendous form this season. Thus, any length of time off could hurt the momentum that Kyogo has built up for himself.
Fortunately, Postecoglou did not sound too concerned about the matter. As reported by 67 Hail Hail, the Celtic manager told BBC Sportsound:
"“It’s his shoulder. He had a similar one last year. We’ll just wait and see, we’ll get it scanned.“He’s a pretty quick healer, I know what he’s like, he’ll probably want to train on Monday – but we’ll wait and see how the scan goes. Obviously, there’s an issue there but I’ll just wait and see.“Just Kyogo in his nature, there’s no doubt he’ll be pushing to make himself available for next week. We just have to be sensible, there’s a lot of football to be played and we’ll be guided by the best information.”"
Celtic boss offers injury update on Kyogo after 5-1 win vs St Mirren
That certainly sounds like a positive injury update from Postecoglou for sure. Kyogo is a very important part of this team and has been almost scoring for fun lately.
Thus, missing the Japanese star for any length of time would be a blow for Celtic, especially as we enter the business end of the season. The Scottish League Cup final is a couple of weeks away, and hopefully, Kyogo will regain fitness in time to feature in that match.
He was the hero of last season’s Scottish League Cup final, as he scored a match-winning brace against Hibernian to win the trophy for Celtic. This time around, the Hoops will come up against Michael Beale’s Rangers at Hampden Park.
