Celtic fans have been worried about the future of Ange Postecoglou for some time now, with one Premier League club after another being linked with him, whenever there is a managerial change down south these days. Earlier on in the campaign, it was the likes of Everton, Brighton & Hove Albion, and recently, the Australian has been rumoured to be a possible candidate for the Leeds United job.
Of course, Postecoglou has stayed put for the time being. But every Celtic fan understands that in the future, the manager could very well look towards a different club, if the right opportunity is there.
That is understandable as well. He is in his late 50s and it was only 18 months back that Postecoglou was given a chance to manage at the top level in Europe. Thus, he does not have a lot of time left to experience other leagues.
Kris Boyd decided to send a strange message to the Celtic supporters about the matter recently. He wrote in his column in The Scottish Sun:
"Nobody in football, particularly in Scotland, is here for the long term.It is, and always will be, a stepping stone to bigger and better things. The Aussie has the Hoops fanbase eating out of the palm of his hand. But if they think he won’t eventually take up an offer from down south, they are living in cloud cuckoo land.Listening to some of them, you’d think he grew up in Athens with posters of Jimmy Johnstone and Billy McNeill on his wall.My guess is he’ll head for pastures new either this summer or next."
Boyd sends strange message to Celtic supporters
It would be safe to say that the majority of the Celtic fanbase understands that if an offer came in that was too good to turn down, then Postecoglou might very well be on his way out of the club in the future. That is just the reality of Scottish football and where it stands.
Most people understand that and would not be surprised if Postecoglou departs Parkhead one day. Nothing Boyd brings up is a revelation for anyone. The only thing that the majority of the club’s supporters are hoping for is that he decides to leave in the off-season.
Leaving in the middle of the campaign would only hurt the legacy that he has built at Parkhead and the special bond that he has forged with the fans. Similar to what happened with Brendan Rodgers.
