Rangers boss Michael Beale raised quite a few eyebrows with his comments about Celtic’s transfers and because of describing Ange Postecoglou as a ‘lucky man’. Of course, a lot has been made of that in the media and by the fans as well. But now, we have something definitive on our hands to show that luck has not factored much when it comes to the Hoops’ recent success under the Australian manager.
Of course, we can talk about the success on the pitch. The club won an unexpected Premiership and League Cup double last season. And they find themselves in a solid position this season as well, still in contention for all three domestic trophies.
It is not just on the pitch that Celtic are winning though. The club have put up some impressive numbers when it comes to their financial results as well.
On Celtic’s official website, the club released their Interim Report for the six months to December 31, 2022. The Hoops’ revenue increased by 44.8% to £76.5 million (2021: £52.9 million). And they had a profit before taxation of £33.9 million (2021: £27.6 million).
Celtic announcement proves Rangers manager wrong
Thus, it is pretty clear that Celtic are making transfers that they can afford to do. In fact, one could argue that they could bring in more players if they wanted, judging by the latest financial results.
Nothing about Postecoglou’s run at Celtic has been about luck. In fact, he arrived at the worst possible time, when the Rangers were convincingly ahead of the Hoops.
But the Australian has been successful in turning things around at Parkhead quicker than anybody could have expected. And they seem to be doing better financially than they were last season at this point as well. So, it is safe to say that the Hoops can continue to add to their squad in the future.
